Palestine refuses to chair the Arab League meeting!

Palestine has refused to chair a meeting of the Arab League in protest of a normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain with Israel.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki announced at a news conference in Ramallah on Tuesday. Palestine has taken this decision in protest of the Arab League’s backing of the UAE and Bahrain’s agreement with Israel in violation of the Arab Peace Initiative.

He said some influential Arab countries have refused to condemn violations of the Arab Peace Initiative. He stressed that Palestine will not leave the Arab League even if it does not chair the upcoming meeting. The member states periodically preside over the meetings of the alliance.

The meeting of the Arab League was held on 9 September. The alliance failed to pass a resolution condemning the Abu Dhabi and Manama agreements with Israel.

On September 15, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain formally signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations with Israel at the White House, mediated by the United States. Palestine has strongly condemned it.
